Parking Near Wrigley Field on Game Days
Parking near Wrigley Field on game days is one of the most contested in Chicago. The Wrigleyville neighborhood — centered on Clark and Addison — has extensive permit parking zones that activate for Cubs home games, leaving most street parking off-limits to non-residents. Here's what you need to know.
The Wrigleyville permit zone
The City of Chicago designates a large area around Wrigley Field as a Residential Permit Parking Zone that activates during Cubs home games. Signs throughout the neighborhood indicate "Permit Parking Only During Cubs Home Games." These restrictions typically activate 3 hours before first pitch and extend through the end of the game plus a buffer.
The permit zone covers most of Ward 44 within about a half-mile of the ballpark. If you park in the zone without a resident permit during a game, expect a ticket and a real chance of being towed.
Where non-residents can legally park
Your options near Wrigley on game days:
- Paid parking lots and garages — Several private lots operate in the area, typically $20–$40 on game days. The closer to the park, the higher the price.
- Outside the permit zone — Street parking is generally available further out: try the streets east of Clark toward the lakefront, or north of Irving Park Road.
- Edgewater and Andersonville — A 15-minute walk north puts you largely outside the permit zone with much better parking availability.
Street sweeping around game days
Don't forget that Wrigleyville is in Ward 44, which has its own regular street sweeping schedule running April through November. A game day that falls on a sweep day means double the enforcement pressure. Check your specific block's sweep schedule before parking overnight before a day game.
The easiest option: don't drive
The Red Line stops directly at Addison, one block from Wrigley. On game days, it's genuinely faster than driving and parking — trains run frequently before and after games, and you avoid the post-game gridlock entirely.
Night games and overnight parking
If you're attending a night game and plan to leave your car overnight, verify that there are no street sweeping restrictions on your block for the following morning. Ward 44 sections sweep on various days — check your specific section's schedule before leaving your car.
