About ParkSafe Chicago

Why I built this

I got a street sweeping ticket. Not because I forgot — I just didn't realize it was that Tuesday. The sign was there, the schedule was technically public, but hunting down a PDF on the city website and cross-referencing it against a calendar isn't something most people do before bed on a Monday night.

After the second ticket I started setting my own calendar reminders. Then I figured if I was already doing the work, I might as well make it useful for everyone else who parks on a Chicago street.

What it does

You type your address, we tell you your ward, your sweep section, and every date your street is scheduled to be swept in 2026. If you want, we'll email you the night before — so you wake up knowing to move your car before 7am, not after you've already left for work.

Who built it

I'm a Chicago resident who lives in Lakeview. I built ParkSafe in my spare time because the city's existing tools are hard to use and the information is scattered. This is a side project — not a startup, not a company — just something I made to solve a problem I had and figured other people had too.

The commitment

Free forever for the basics. All 50 wards. Built and maintained by a Chicago resident who got tired of moving his car at the last minute.

Limitations

We pull schedule data from the City of Chicago's open data portal and sync it weekly. If the city changes a date mid-season, we'll catch it within 7 days. We do our best to keep everything accurate, but always double-check the street signs near your car — the city occasionally makes last-minute changes that don't show up in the data right away.
